The Cranbrook Bucks let one get away Saturday in their 4-2 loss to the Prince George Spruce Kings.
The Bucks were able to get on the board first in the opening frame. Red hot forward Jacob Fletcher put the Bucks up 1-0 with a goal at 12:31. Prince George outshot Cranbrook 11-10 in the first period, the Bucks maintained their 1-0 lead through intermission.
In the second period, Bryce Sookro tallied at 5:54 to give Cranbrook a 2-0 lead. Prince George responded in short order, a Skogan Schrott goal at 6:22 cut Cranbrook’s lead to 2-1. The bucks were outshot 11-6 in the second period, and led 2-1 after forty minutes.
Third period action saw a sharp swing in momentum. The Bucks held on to their 2-1 lead through the first half, but Prince George was determined to secure a split in their weekend double-header. The Spruce Kings tied the game 2-2 at 12:55 via Scott Cousins’ sixth goal of the season. They added goals from Lucas Veilleux and Owen Goodbrand in the dying minutes to go up 4-2. Cranbrook went with an empty net for an extra attacker in the final minutes, but failed to make up any ground and settled for a 4-2 loss.
Saturday’s loss puts Cranbrook’s record at 16-23-2, they were outshot 36-28. On special teams, the Bucks went 0/1 on the power play and their penalty kill finished 3/3.
The Bucks are back home Friday to take on the Kelowna Rockets.
