GAME RECAP: Bucks Fall Short Against Penticton

The Cranbrook Bucks (1-3-0-0) took to the ice on Friday evening for their fourth game of the season and their second matchup against the Penticton Vees (4-0-0-0).

There were chances at both ends throughout the 1st period but it was ultimately the Vees that would score first as Liam Malmquist netted a backhand shot over the left shoulder of Bucks goaltender Nathan Airey to give the Vees a 1-0 lead that would hold up for the remainder of the period. Penticton opened the scoring in the 2nd frame thanks to a goal from Crae Dawson, but the Bucks would answer with 2 goals in under a minute from Christian Lowe and Noah Leibl. The tie game wouldn’t last long however as Penticton’s Ryan McGuire scored just 18 seconds later to restore the Vees lead. Zeth Kindrachuk tied things up before the Vees capitalized a Noah Quinn double-minor to go up 4-3 heading into the second intermission. Each team exchanged powerplays at the start of the 3rd period but neither could capitalize. Penticton’s Luc Wilson extended the Vee’s lead to 2 with his 4th goal of the season at 11:05 of the 3rd period. Penticton would hold on to win 5-3.

“I thought the effort was pretty good out there tonight but we didn’t get the result we wanted,” said Cranbrook Bucks defensemen Cameron Kungle. “We put pucks in deep and played Bucks hockey but it just didn’t go our way tonight.”

Nathan Airey stopped 38 of 43 shots.
