The Cranbrook Bucks (1-4-0-0) dropped a 4-2 contest to their Kootenay rivals, the Trail Smoke Eaters (2-3-0-0), on Saturday evening in Penticton.

The Trail Smoke Eaters got on the scoresheet early as Jackson Krill scored just 1:42 into the 1st period. Trail increased their lead to 3-0 thanks to a pair of goals by Kalen Szeto and Zack Feaver. Cranbrook’s Tyson Dyck got the Bucks on the scoreboard early in the 2nd period with his third goal of the season to cut Trail’s lead down to 2. The Bucks got into penalty trouble during the 2nd period, giving the Smoke Eaters 3 consecutive powerplays which they were unable to capitalize on. Rhys Benthem scored his first BCHL goal while shorthanded to bring the Bucks within 1 heading into the second intermission. Trail’s Quinn Disher had the lone goal of the 3rd period which saw the Trail Smoke Eaters hang on to win by a score of 4-2. Cranbrook’s Jay Thomson stopped 18 out of 22 shots while Trail’s Logan Terness stopped 33 of 35.

“[I] thought we came out a little slow tonight but battled for forty minutes so we can take some positives away from it,” said Cranbrook forward Tyson Dyck. “Obviously not the result we wanted but we’re coming out hard in two days and will be ready to play.”
