Bucks edge Warriors 2-1

The Cranbrook Bucks are back in the winner’s circle following Friday’s 2-1 triumph over the West Kelowna Warriors.

The Bucks managed to wrangle a first period lead thanks to a well-placed snap shot from Noah Urness. West Kelowna failed to tally in the opening frame despite taking an 11-6 shots advantage into the first intermission. Cranbrook led 1-0 after twenty minutes.

Cranbrook appeared to be on their way to maintaining their lead through the second intermission, but a late goal from Brennan Nelson at 19:20 vaulted the Warriors to a 1-1 tie. The game remained squared up at the second intermission.

West Kelowna continued to push in the third period, but Bucks goalie Carter Capton turned aside 10 shots from the home team. A Cranbrook goal from Oskar Cederqvist at 3:42 bumped the Bucks up to a 2-1 lead, and they were able to hold on to claim victory.

Friday’s win lifts Cranbrook’s record to 2-1. The Bucks finished 0/6 on the power play, West Kelowna went 1/5 with the man-advantage. Cranbrook was outshot 29-26.
