GAME RECAP: Bucks Record First Win in Franchise History

The Cranbrook Bucks met the Trail Smoke Eaters for the first time in the regular season on Sunday afternoon. The Bucks scored 5 goals on route to their first win in franchise history.

Trail’s Noah Wakeford opened the scoring at 7:53 of the first before Cranbrook’s Nathan Fox tied things up with his first BCHL goal. Noah Quinn also tallied his first BCHL goal to give the Bucks the lead heading into the first intermission. Trail got into penalty trouble midway through the second that gave the Bucks a 5 on 3 powerplay which saw AJ Vasko score his second of the season to extend the Bucks lead. Trail quickly answered with a goal of their own thanks to Noah Wakeford to cut the Bucks lead back down to 1 before the end of the second period. Cameron Kungle opened the scoring early in the third period to restore the Bucks two-goal. The Bucks went on to win 5-3 and recorded their first win in franchise history.

Jay Thomson stopped 21 of 24 shots en route to the clubs first BCHL victory.

“[I’m] happy for the guys and this organization to get its first win,” said Head Coach & General Manager Ryan Donald. “A lot of contributions from across the board [and I’m] happy that Jay was able to backstop us to victory tonight. Another game with some highs and lows but glad to see our guys get rewarded for their efforts this evening.”
