Bucks sweep midweek road trip with 4-3 win vs Blackfalds

The Cranbrook Bucks are on a heater with three straight wins following Wednesday’s 4-3 victory over the Blackfalds Bulldogs.

Both teams matched up fairly even through the first period with the shots at 8-8. The lone goal came from a Cranbrook power play via Kaslo Ferner at 7:35 to put the Bucks up 1-0 into intermission.

An early second period goal from Cranbrook’s Patrick Murphy lifted their lead to 2-0 at the ninety second mark. Blackflads managed to narrow the gap with a goal from Lucas MacDonald just shy of the five minute barrier to make it a 2-1 game.  The two clubs continued to go back and forth through the middle frame with Cranbrook getting another tally from Murphy and one from Bryce Sookro, while the Bulldogs answered with a goal form Danny Hussa. The Bucks led 4-2 after forty minutes.

The Bucks shifted to a defensive model through the third period. Blackfalds did manage to get a little closer with a goal from Joey Melo at 11:36 to make it a 4-3 game, but that was as close as they would get. The Bucks managed to hang on for a 4-3 victory.

Wednesday’s win lifts Cranbrook’s record to 20-13-2, the Bulldogs outshot the Bucks 27-26. On special teams, Cranbrook’s power play went 1/3 and they finished 2/2 on the penalty kill.

The Bucks return home Friday night to face the Trail Smoke Eaters.
