Bucks return with 4-2 win versus Warriors

The Cranbrook Bucks picked up a 4-2 win over the West Kelowna Warriors Friday night in the club’s return from the BCHL holiday break.

Cranbrook took the lead early in the first period, a Kaslo Ferner power play goal put the Bucks up 1-0 at 6:33. The Warriors were limited to just five shots in the opening frame, and Cranbrook’s 1-0 lead held steady through intermission.

West Kelowna was able to pull into a tie in the early goings of the second period. Luciano Bruno fired a puck past Jaden Cholette after a Bucks turnover in their own zone, making the score 1-1. Cranbrook managed to retake their lead late in the frame thanks to Ferner’s second goal of the night. Cranbrook led 2-1 after forty minutes.

The Bucks put the game on ice in the final frame. Goals from Matt Gilmore and Sam Hynes were enough for the Bucks to fend off West Kelowna. Warriors captain Simon Hogue did manage a late goal, but it was not enough to catch up to the Bucks who took a 4-2 victory.

Friday’s win lifts Cranbrook’s record to 16-11-1, the Bucks were outshot 36-33. On special teams, Cranbrook went 2/5 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill.

Cranbrook returns to action Tuesday evening for their annual New Years Eve showdown at home versus the Trail Smoke Eaters.
