Bucks finish successful road trip with win over Vipers

A fitting end to the weekend for the Cranbrook Bucks saw the club take 5 of 6 points on their Okanagan/Shuswap road trip following Saturday’s 5-1 win over the Vernon Vipers.

The goalies were forced into action early and often in the first period in Vernon. The Vipers outshot Cranbrook 19-18 in the opening frame, but it was the Bucks who set the tone on the scoresheet. Goals from Sam Lyne and Shane Baker put the Bucks up 2-0 at the first intermission.

The Bucks added to their lead early in the second period by way of Rasmus Svartstrom’s 20th goal of the season to go up 3-0. A Vernon goal from Landon MacDonald at the twelve minute mark gave the home team a bit of hope, and cut Cranbrook’s lead to 3-1 after forty minutes.

The third period was a stalemate most of the way. The Bucks added an empty net goal from Kaslo Ferner late in the final frame to seal the game, and one more for good measure from Shane Baker to give Cranbrook a 5-1 victory.

Saturday’s win lifts Cranbrook’s record to 14-10-1, the Vipers outshot Cranbrook 41-34. On special teams, Cranbrook’s power play went 0/5 while the penalty kill finished 3/3 and added a short-handed goal.

The Bucks return home Friday night to face the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
