The Cranbrook Bucks are back in the winner’s circle after a 2-1 overtime win in Salmon Arm Friday night.
The first period was more of a feeling out process, though the Silverbacks were able to strike first. An Easton Walos goal near the five minute mark gave the Silverbacks a 1-0 lead to take to intermission.
Neither team found the net in the second period. Cranbrook outshot Salmon Arm 9-6 in the middle frame, but the game remained at a 1-0 lead for the Silverbacks after forty minutes.
Cranbrook tied the game early in the third period, a Jake Skogstad tally lifted the Bucks to a 1-1 tie at the 1:44 mark. Both goalies shut the door the rest of the way through regulation, setting up an overtime finish. Salmon Arm had plenty of chances in the extra frame, firing eight shots at Jaden Cholette. However, the Bucks managed to snag the extra point after a late breakaway goal from Shane Baker gave Cranbrook a 2-1 victory.
Friday’s win lifts Cranbrook’s record to 13-10-1, the shots on goal count was tied 28-28. On special teams, the Bucks finished 0/4 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill.
Cranbrook’s road trip finished tonight in Vernon versus the Vipers.
