Bucks fall 5-2 to Brooks

The Cranbrook Bucks had a rough go of it versus the Brooks Bandits Saturday night in Alberta, taking a 5-2 loss against one of the top contenders in the BCHL this season.

Neither team managed to break the scoring in the first period. Brooks outshot Cranbrook 12-4 and the score remained 0-0 through the first intermission.

The Bandits began to tally up a comfortable lead in the middle frame. Five Brooks goals broke the game open for the home team, with two goals from Parker Lalonde and more run support from Josh Weibe, Davide Patella and Ethan Byer. The Bucks suddenly found themselves at a 5-0 deficit after forty minutes.

Brooks appeared to back off in the third period, giving way to a pair of late Bucks goals from Rasmus Svartstrom and Sam Lyne. However, Brooks had the game well in hand, and skated away with a 5-2 victory.

Saturday’s loss drops Cranbrook’s record to 10-8-0, Brooks outshot the Bucks 32-19. On special teams, Cranbrook’s power play went 1/2 and their penalty kill finished 2/3.

The Bucks return home Friday night to face the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
