The Cranbrook Bucks are back in the win column after taking a 3-0 victory over the Oilers in Okotoks Saturday night, avoiding a three game losing streak in the process.
In the first period, Okotoks spent the first few minutes in attack mode but were not able to solve Bucks goalie Jaden Cholette. The Bucks started to find their legs in the second half of the opening frame and began to stage a push, this included an unsuccessful attempt at a penalty shot from Jacob Fletcher. Cranbrook did manage to open the scoring via a late goal from Blake Cotton to give the Bucks a 1-0 lead at intermission.
The Bucks added to their lead in the second period with a Sammy Hynes goal at 6:15 to go up 2-0. Neither club was able to muster any further offense, and the middle frame ended with the Bucks holding a 2-0 lead.
In third period action, Bucks forward Jacob Fletcher was able to make up for his missed penalty shot earlier in the game with a goal at 6:30 to lift Cranbrook’s lead to 3-0. The Bucks clamped down in their own zone the rest of the way to preserve a 3-0 victory on the road to split their home and home with Okotoks.
Saturday’s win lifts Cranbrook’s record to 9-3-0. On special teams, Cranbrook’s power play went 1/5 while going 3/3 on the penalty kill. The Bucks outshot Okotoks 36-31.
The Bucks are back in action at home Friday when they face the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
