The Cranbrook Bucks are winless through four games after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
The Bucks were able to go toe-to-toe with one of the Interior’s strongest team’s for a second straight night, and they looked to get off to a good start early in the first period. Cranbrook was able to take advantage of an early power play, Jack Silich provided the finish at 1:20 to lift the Bucks to a 1-0 lead. Both goalies held steady through the remainder of the opening frame, and Cranbrook’s 1-0 lead was intact at intermission.
The Silverbacks were able to get back in the mix in the second period. A Maddux Martin goal on a 2-on-1 rush put Salmon Arm in a 1-1 tie at 9:40. Salmon Arm took the lead late in the second period, Cole Cooksey tallied on another Silverbacks rush with one-minute remaining in the middle frame. The Silverbacks were up 2-1 after forty minutes.
Neither team gave an inch in the third period, despite both clubs firing eleven shots. Cranbrook went with a pulled goalie for an extra attacker with time winding down in the third period, but the move failed to make a difference in Saturday’s outcome. Salmon Arm beat the Bucks for a second consecutive night, securing a 2-1 win.
Saturday’s loss drops Cranbrook’s record to 19-26-3, Salmon Arm outshot the Bucks 31-29. On special teams, Cranbrook’s power play went 1/5 and they finished 4/4 on the penalty kill.
