Vees take 5-1 win over Bucks

The Cranbrook Bucks put forth a strong effort Saturday, but it was not enough to get past a very strong Penticton Vees team.

The Bucks got the jump on the home team in the first period, a goal from Joseph Blackley at 5:09 put Cranbrook in a 1-0 lead. However, the Vees were quick to tally a tying goal from Connor MacPherson at 6:42. Cranbrook goalie Braedyn McIntosh turned asisde 12 of 13 first period shots from Penticton, and the game was at a 1-1 tie at intermission.

The Vees began to build their lead in the second period. A goal from MacPherson just seventeen seconds into the middle frame made it a 2-1 game, then Vees forward Billy Renfrew added another tally to put the Vees up 3-1. The score remained a 3-1 Vees lead after forty minutes.

Penticton would add another pair of goals in the third period from James Fisher and another from Renfrew to secure a 5-1 win.

Saturday’s loss drops Cranbrook’s record to 14-20-2, the Bucks are winless through their last three games. Cranbrook’s power play went 1/3 and they finsihed 4/6 on the penalty kill, the Vees outshot the Bucks 36-18.

The Bucks return home Wednesday to face the Trail Smoke Eaters.
