Bucks open 2024 with 4-0 loss to Vernon

The Cranbrook Bucks are on a four game losing streak following Friday’s 4-0 setback versus the Vipers in Vernon.

First period action ended in a stalemate, a defensive battle appeared to be in the works with Cranbrook outshooting Vernon 7-5 in the opening frame. The score remained 0-0 at intermission.

The Vipers finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the waning minutes of the second period. A goal from George Stavrianeas put the Vipers up 1-0 at 16:15. The Bucks were outshot 15-5 through the middle frame, and trailed 1-0 after forty minutes.

Vernon essentially put the game away within the first ninety seconds of the third period. Late second period penalties for the Bucks gave the Vipers some early power play time in the third period, and they cashed in. Power play goals from Etienne Lessard and Owen Kim put Vernon up 3-0 at 1:26. The Vipers added one more empty net goal in the dying minutes to secure a 4-0 win.
