Bucks winning streak at 4 games after win over Cowichan Valley

The Cranbrook Bucks are riding a four-game winning streak following Friday’s 3-1 triumph over the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

The Bucks started with a strong first period, and they were rewarded with an Evan Brown goal at 8:59 to go up 1-0. Cranbrook owned the pace of play through the opening frame, outshooting Cowichan Valley 18-6. Their 1-0 lead held steady at intermission.

Cranbrook continued to apply pressure through the second period. A one-timer blast from Bryce Sookro and Brown’s second goal of the game had the Bucks in a 3-0 lead after forty minutes.

Cowichan Valley began to push back in the third period, firing nine shots on Bucks goalie Danick Leroux. The Capitals managed to cut Cranbrook’s lead to two goals thanks to a tally from Andrej Kovacevic to make it a 3-1 game. Cowichan Valley went with an empty net late in an attempt to force overtime, but the Bucks held on and skated away with a 3-1 victory.

Friday’s win lifts Cranbrook’s record to 7-11-1. The Bucks outshot Cowichan Valley 41-25. On special teams, the Bucks went 0/4 on the power play and 1/2 on the penalty kill.

The Bucks will aim for a fifth straight win Saturday when they host the Nanaimo Clippers.
