Bucks fall 6-3 to Vernon

The Cranbrook Bucks are winless in their last five games following Saturday’s 6-3 loss at home to the Vernon Vipers.

The Bucks played Vernon closely through the first period, the Vipers outshot Cranbrook 13-10 through the opening frame with neither goalie giving an inch. The game remained at a scoreless deadlock after twenty minutes.

The offenses started to find a gear in the second period, particularly Vernon’s. Vipers forward Adam Csabi opened the scoring at 1:06 to give the Vipers a 1-0 lead. Cranbrook tied the game at 6:06 via Julian Frias’ third goal of the season. However, Vernon would net the next three goals, including a sequence where they had two goals within nineteen seconds, to take a 4-1 lead into the second intermission.

Cranbrook started to push back in the third period, and put themselves in a good position to tie the game with goals from Noah Urness and Jack Silich to pull the team to within one-goal of the Vipers at a 4-3 deficit. But it ultimately was not enough, and the Vipers added two more goals in the dying minutes to secure a 6-3 win over the Bucks.

Saturday’s loss drops Cranbrook’s record to 2-5-1, they are on a five-game winless streak. The Vipers outshot Cranbrook 44-31, the Bucks finished 0/1 on the power play and 2/3 on the penalty kill.

The Bucks will get a chance to snap out of their funk on Friday when they host the Trail Smoke Eaters in the first half of a home-and-home.
