The Cranbrook Bucks ended their regular season in dramatic fashion Saturday night, earning a 4-3 overtime win over the Prince George Spruce Kings.
The Spruce Kings got started in a hurry. Prince George built a 2-0 lead in the first 1:33 with goals from John Herrington and Ben Lefranc. The Bucks were unable to tally a response in the opening frame, and trailed 2-0 at intermission.
A late second period surge from the Bucks got them back into the game. Goals from Donovan Frias at 16:03 and Kellan Hjartarson at 17:39 to tie the game 2-2. The game remained tied into the third period.
Prince George took the lead at 14:10 thanks to a Ty Gagno goal, but the Bucks found paydirt at 18:46 in the form of a Nick Peluso goal to tie the game 3-3 – this forced overtime.
The Bucks finally managed to knock off the Spruce Kings with an overtime goal from Noah Quinn at 2:36 to take a 4-3 win in their regular season finale.
Saturday’s win gives Cranbrook a 36-14-1-3 record to finish the regular season. They begin their playoff run Friday at home, the Wenatchee Wild will be Cranbrook’s first round opponent.
