Game Recap: Bucks Outmatched in 4-2 Loss to Salmon Arm

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks were able to stifle a late comeback attempt by the Cranbrook Bucks to take a big 4-2 win Saturday.

The Silverbacks got off to a running start in the first period, building a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Hayden Stavrov, Nathan Mackie and Isaac Lambert. Salmon Arm owned the pace of play through the first twenty minutes, outshooting the Bucks 24-4. The Bucks trailed 3-0 at the first intermission.

Second period action was stalled by a lengthy delay following an injury to Silverbacks forward Ryan Gillespie, he was hit with an errant puck and needed attention from EMTs and trainers from both teams, he was brought to hospital. Neither club was able to find the net after play resumed, Salmon Arm’s 3-0 lead held steady through forty minutes.

The Bucks began to mount a comeback to begin the third period, goals from Noah Quinn and Donovan Frias put the Bucks to within one goal of Salmon Arm at 3-2, but a late goal from Silverbacks forward Hayden Stavrov put Cranbrook’s comeback hopes to rest and made it a 4-2 lead for the road team. The Bucks would not be able to get any closer, and the Silverbacks managed to hang on for a 4-2 win.

Saturday’s loss drops Cranbrook’s record to 30-13-1-2, they were outshot 38-31 by Salmon Arm.

The Bucks return to action Friday in West Kelowna versus the Warriors.
