Game Recap: Coquitlam Beats Cranbrook 6-1

The Cranbrook Bucks will look to right some wrongs following a 6-1 loss to the Coquitlam Express Sunday afternoon.

The Express set a tone for the game with a goal from Drew Garzone just twenty-seconds into the first period to give Coquitlam an early 1-0 lead. Coquitlam’s lead doubled to 2-0 at the 2:46 mark via Tyler Kopff’s sixth goal of the season. A Michael Rubin goal at 10:28 gave the Express a 3-0 lead. The Bucks managed to get on the scoresheet in the final five-minutes thanks to a Donovan Frias power play goal. Cranbrook trailed 3-1 at the first intermission.

Coquitlam was able to build on their lead in the second period with a power play goal from Evan Brown. The Bucks managed 8 shots in the middle frame, but they were unable to find the net. Cranbrook found themselves down 4-1 after forty minutes.

Early third period goals from Mirko Buttazzoni and Cameron Moger put the game out of reach for the Bucks, and the Express were able to cruise their way to a 6-1 win.

Sunday’s loss drops Cranbrook’s record to 8-6-1. The Bucks were outshot 40-24. On special teams, Cranbrook’s power play finished 1/5, their penalty kill was 5/7.

The Bucks will continue their road trip Monday versus the Nanaimo Clippers. This will be a make-up game for Friday’s postponed matchup.
