Game Recap: A Perfect 10 for the Cranbrook Bucks

Welcome to Double Digitsville: Population, Cranbrook Bucks.

The Cranbrook Bucks returned home from the 2022 BCHL Showcase Friday night with a record-setting 10-3 win over the Powell River Kings, much to the delight of more than 2,600 fans at Western Financial Place.

The Bucks needed a little less than four minutes to get started, a Jack Henry point blast gave them a 1-0 lead. Cranbrook forward Jack Silich continued his hot streak with a first period goal to put the Bucks up 2-0 at the eleven-minute mark. Powell River got a goal from Max Potvin before the period ended to leave the Kings at a 2-1 deficit at intermission.

Cranbrook’s offense dialed up a few notches for the second period. They got five goals from five different players; Noah Quinn, Jaden Fodchuk, Jack Silich, Jaxon Fuder and Bauer Morrissey. The Bucks took a commanding 7-1 lead into the third period.

Powell River was able to keep pace with the Bucks in the third period, adding goals from Parker Lalonde and Karter McNarland. However, the damage was done, and the Bucks managed three goals through the third period from Bryce Sookro, Jaxon Fuder and Cooper Boulanger. When the final buzzer sounded, the Bucks had secured a 10-3 win – setting a franchise record for most goals in one game.

Friday’s win bumps Cranbrook’s record to 7-3, Powell River falls to 2-7-1 and their losing streak is at six games. On special teams, the Bucks finished 1/5 on the power play and they were perfect on the penalty kill at 1/1. The Bucks outshot Powell River 56-45.

The Bucks are preparing for a busy stretch of their regular season schedule, their next six games are on the road. They’re starting in the Interior next week with a meeting versus the Penticton Vees October 26. Cranbrook’s next home game is November 12 when the Victoria Grizzlies pay a rare visit to Western Financial Place.
