Game Recap: Bucks Dominant in 9-2 Win at Showcase Opener

It’s safe to say the Cranbrook Bucks have arrived at the BCHL Showcase, a statement amplified by a 9-2 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals Monday afternoon.

The Bucks took control early in the game with goals in the first ten minutes from Luke Pfoh and Cam Kungle. The Bucks outshot Cowichan Valley 14-3 in the opening frame, but the Capitals did manage to sneak one goal past Cranbrook goalie Carter Capton before the intermission. Cranbrook held a 2-1 lead after the first period, but the floodgates were about to open.

Cranbrook’s lead was extended to 4-1 with goals from Nick Peluso and Jack Silich less than five-and-a-half minutes into the second period. Cowichan Valley got one back to cut the lead to 4-2 via Greye Rampton’s first goal of the season. The Bucks replied with back-to-back power play goals from Jack Henry and Rhys Bentham to give Cranbrook a 6-2 lead. A short-handed goal from Cranbrook forward Jarrod Smith put the Bucks at a 7-2 lead by the second buzzer.

With the game firmly in their grasp, Cranbrook’s offense dialed down a tad in the third period. However, Jack Silich was able to tally two more goals to finish with a hattrick, putting a bow on an impressive 9-2 victory in Chilliwack.

Monday’s win improves Cranbrook’s record to 6-2. The Bucks’ power play units finished 2/6, Cowichan Valley was 0/3 with the man-advantage.

The Bucks conclude their second BCHL Showcase experience Tuesday morning versus the Nanaimo Clippers, last year’s Fred Page Cup finalists.

Buck Tracks:

  • 1st career BCHL hattrick for Jack Silich.
  • 5 points in last 3 games for Kellan Hjartarson.
  • 5 game point streak for Rhys Bentham (3g,6a)
