Bucks Captain Rhys Bentham Commits to Yale University

The Cranbrook Bucks are congratulating defenceman, Rhys Bentham, who has committed to continuing his hockey career at NCAA Division 1 level in the Ivy League with Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

Bentham, a native of Calgary, Alberta, and the captain of the Cranbrook Bucks for the 2021-2022 season, has been a stalwart on the blueline with Cranbrook this season and is a leader on and off the ice.

He is tied as the points leader among Bucks defenceman with 22 points through 50 games this season (1-21-22).

The talented defender is looking forward to what lies ahead for when the time comes to take the next step in his hockey career.

“I’m pretty excited, I went through this process with my family and I, we’re all pretty stoked to go to such a high caliber school,” Bentham says.

The Cranbrook captain is thankful for his experience in the Key City so far, he says his time with the Bucks has prepared him to make the jump from junior hockey to the collegiate level.

“I think it’s [last two years in the BCHL] really matured me into becoming a grown adult faster than I thought,” says Bentham. “It taught me to grow up a little bit, and mature, and grow into the guy I am today.”

The 2002-born defenceman joined the Bucks for the 2021 BCHL pod season in Penticton, putting up 6 points through 20 games while serving as assistant captain.
