Game Recap: Bucks take a 4 Game Win Streak to end 2021

The Cranbrook Bucks managed to end the calendar year on a high note, taking a big 4-0 win over the Trail Smoke Eaters at home on New Years Eve.

The two teams were somewhat timid in the first period, neither side were able to convert on multiple power play attempts. The Bucks outshot Trail 9-8 through the first period, but both teams were held scoreless through twenty minutes.

The second period was a different story. The Bucks managed to light the lamp three times through the middle frame. Luke Pfoh started the Bucks’ blitz at 6:53 after taking a nice pass to the slot from Tyson Dyck. Liam Hansson finally found the net for his first goal of the season at 11:19. Noah Quinn finished Cranbrook’s offensive flurry at 16:46 on the power play. Cranbrook’s offensive outburst put them up 3-0 after two periods.

Cranbrook was able to shut the door on Trail in the third period. A Bucks goal on a Kellan Hjartarson deflection deflated Trail’s comeback hopes, and Cranbrook cruised to a 4-0 victory.

The win improves Cranbrook’s record to 14-10-1, Trail falls to 12-11-1. Friday’s triumph was also the second shutout of the season for Bucks goalie Nathan Airey, earning him the game’s first star nod. The Bucks outshot Trail 37-24. Cranbrook’s winning streak is at four games, conversely the Smokies are riding a four-game losing streak.

These two clubs will ring in the new year in Trail on Saturday in the second half of their latest home-and-home series.
