GAME RECAP: Bucks Shutout by Kootenay Rivals

PHOTO: Jack Murray

The Cranbrook Bucks (2-11-0-1) and the Trail Smoke Eaters (7-7-0-0) met for the seventh time during this pod season in a game that saw Trail come out on top by a score of 3-0.

It was the Smoke Eaters who got the opening goal as Kalen Szeto scored on the powerplay just over 8 minutes into the 1st period as Trail outshot Cranbrook 10-7 in the opening frame. An early 2nd-period goal from Noah Wakeford gave the Smoke Eaters a 2-0 lead which they carried into the second intermission. Despite outshooting the Smoke Eaters 15-4 in the second period, the Bucks were unable to solve Logan Terness who remained perfect through forty minutes. The only goal of the 3rd period came 19:47 in as Chase Dafoe sealed the Smoke Eaters win with an empty-net goal. Cranbrook’s Nathan Airey stopped 18/20 shots while Trail’s Logan Terness stopped all 30 shots he faced to record the shutout.
